Wisconsin Union at University of Wisconsin — MadisoN

HIGHER Education Experiential Storytelling

Conceptual Development | UI Design | Content Strategy | Art Direction | Donor Recognition | Research | Writing

The Wisconsin Union is central to the UW Madison campus and the Madison community. During the academic year, thousands of students use the Memorial Union and Union South as their living rooms, while visitors and Madisonians tend to take over in the summers as is true for the team at ZEBRADOG, who regularly works on various projects for both campuses. From shadowbox backdrops to interactive exhibits to custom reclaimed signage, I frequently collaborated with the Wisconsin Union on new ways to engage students and community members.

Find Your Seat

Ella Fitzgerald, Yo-Yo Ma, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Alfred Lunt, and Lynne Fontaine — These are a few of the performers and speakers who have graced the stage at the Wisconsin Union Theater since 1939. And through it all, the theater has been supported by generous donors and benefactors. In a push to re-engage the community in supporting the Union Theater, a small team from ZEBRADOG collaborated with the theater staff to create a digital exhibit promoting a seat sponsorship campaign. The result is a graceful celebration of past performances, stories of current and past benefactors, and a call to action for new theatergoers.

Exploring the UW Story Collection

The Wisconsin Union began over 100 years ago when the University of Wisconsin - Madison President Charles Van Hise first introduced plans for a campus union in 1904. Since then, hundreds of thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members have enjoyed the offerings of the Wisconsin Union. Our team conceptualized, research, wrote and created an interactive exhibit that would become a repository for community memories to share and celebrate the many people who have graced the halls of the Memorial Union. While a physical display lives within the 100-year-old building, a website component mimics the experience for enjoying out of state, at home, or wherever you may be.
